help them score a clear, quick victory. O God,

8 2002 - Iraqi Sermon [FBIS Report]
Baghdad Republic of Iraq Television in Arabic,
official television station of the Iraqi Government,
carries on 8 November 2002 at 0901 GMT a live
sermon from Abd-al-Qadir al-Jaylani mosque in
Baghdad.
Shaykh Dr. Abd-al-Razzaq al-Sa'di delivers the
sermon, which he begins by welcoming the month
of Ramadan, emphasizing the importance of praying,
fasting, reading the Koran, and giving charity
in this month.
The imam alludes to Islamic jihad in early Islam
and says Muslims are in dire need of this virtue,
especially in this critical hour through which
the Islamic nation is challenged "by Jews and
crusaders, Americans and British," he says.
"They think," he adds, "that they can intimidate
us with their bombs, missiles, and sophisticated
technology." But, we have the power of the Almighty
God on our side, he says.
The imam then lets off an emotional tirade:
"Who are you, O scum of earth? Who are you,
O sons of monkeys and pigs, to threaten Muhammad?
God is his Lord." He goes on: "Who are you Bush,
you tiny midget, to threaten Muhammad and the
sons of Muhammad? By God, we defy you with our
words before our weapons. Who are you to threaten
our sentiments and sanctities? May you be damned."
In an appeal to the Islamic nation, the imam
says: "We will fight them with all weapons.
Jihad, jihad, jihad O nation of the Koran, O
nation of Muhammad, O Muslims, come to jihad
for the sake of God and in defense of the sanctity
of Muhammad. Whoever does not defend Muhammad
and the Koran will never see paradise." He asks:
"Why the slumber and why the poor statements
that do not rise to the level of responsibility?
After the occupation of Jerusalem, the presence
of the infidels in the Arabian Peninsula, and
the threats by infidels to the Arabs, Muslims,
the holy places, and Iraq in particular, jihad
has become a duty for every Muslim. Whoever
lags behind will be a great loser."
The imam devotes the second sermon to a prayer
to God to support Islam and Muslims and to inflict
His might on the infidels. He prays: "O God,
shake the land under their feet, destroy their
fleets and equipment, disperse their troops,
and instill fear and grief in their hearts."
He also prays: "O God, the sedition is asleep.
Accursed is the one who wakes it up. But, they
are waking it up. We do not want to meet the
enemy. But, if they came we would be steadfast.
O God, make us steadfast." He continues: "We
depend on God, O Bush; we depend on God, O Ariel
Sharon. We depend on God, O British. We depend
on God, O enemies of God."

and triggering wars" on the blessed land of
Palestine. Therefore, he says, God "transformed
them into monkeys and pigs," stressing that
God will punish them and urging Muslims to close
ranks and abide by the Islamic law.

mercy on us, and grant us success and victory.

"Islam
is the religion of tolerance...but also jihad"
Friday,
11 October 2002 -
Syrian Sermon [FBIS Report]
Damascus Syria Arab Republic Radio in Arabic,
official station of the Syrian Government, carries
on 11 October 2002 at 0944 GMT a live sermon
from Al-Zahra Mosque in Damascus.
Shaykh Dr. Muhammad al-Habash delivers the sermon
and while dealing with the subject of jihad,
the imam says: "There is a need today to speak
about jihad. Islam is the religion of tolerance,
mercy, and love. But, it is also the religion
of justice and jihad, and peace and power. It
is not sound to imagine that the arrogant on
earth have suddenly turned meek and that we
could stop Zionist designs against Palestine
with wisdom and good word. The tyranny that
the Zionists practice daily on the land of Palestine,
calls upon us to resurrect the message of jihad."
God ordained jihad so this nation would repulse
oppression, establish justice, and deal with
life with realism and rationalism, he says,
adding: There must be force to protect justice
and deter oppression.
"But, this jihad, which God has ordained as
a means to achieve justice on earth," the imam
says, "is being distorted in Western circles.
They confuse terrorism with the right to legitimate
resistance. The arrogant on earth are vying
with one another in describing jihad as a form
of aggression. Unfortunately, some erroneous
Muslim concepts contribute to spreading this
wrong image of jihad."
The imam addresses President Bashar al-Asad,
saying Arabs and Muslims "await a new October."
This is the people's hope, he says, while they
witness Zionist atrocities in Khan Yunus, Ramallah,
Rafah, and Janin. "The only language that can
change the attitude of this arrogant tyrant
and war criminal, who is committing murder daily,
is jihad as ordained by Allah and offered to
us by the October War," he adds.
The imam says: "The Zionist lobby today is leading
the United States, the master of the world,
to an all-out confrontation with the Islamic
World. The United States speaks like a great
power to the world, but turns into a lowly agent
for the Zionists when the matter concerns the
designs of the Zionist lobby. The US Congress
approved a law recognizing Jerusalem as the
capital of the Hebrew state thereby flouting
all international laws."

Mosque to the "brothers of monkeys and the sons
of pigs." He urges Muslims to stop the injustice
against "our brothers in Palestine, Iraq, and
the other Islamic countries." The imam then

staged in support for the Palestinians have
been suffocated."
In the second part of the sermon, the imam urges
Muslims to launch "jihad" for the sake of Al-Aqsa
and Jerusalem and to extend every support to
the Palestinians. He also urges Yemenis to stage

he says, adding: "We must not forget the Jews
and Zionists who are occupying our land and
spilling the blood of our brothers. We must
not forget that Muslim blood is being spilled,
Muslim sanctities are being violated, and Muslim
holy places are being desecrated in Palestine,
and that children, women, and old people are
appealing to Muslims for support and assistance.
They appeal to Muslim rulers, but no one comes
to their aid and stops the injustice." He continues:
"We must not forget the United States, which
is not satisfied with the death of 1 million
Iraqi children during the siege, but is making
preparations and massing armies to attack Iraq
and kill more children and women."
The imam concludes with this prayer: "O God
support whoever supports religion and humble
whoever humbles Muslims, and have mercy on the
nation of muhammad. O God, support our brother
mujahidin in Palestine and everywhere. O God,
strengthen their hearts and wills and give them
victory over their enemies. O God, deal with
the Jews and their supporters and Christians
and their supporters. Shake the land under their
feet, instill fear in their heart, and freeze
the blood in their veins. O God, deal with them
for they are within your power. O God, unite
Muslims and make them brothers in whatever pleases
You." The imam also prays to God to assist the
Yemeni president in whatever serves the wellbeing
of the people and the country.

Arabs and Muslims "to launch jihad as a religious
duty to save Jerusalem and the sanctities from
the Zionist invaders and to put an end to the
occupation, which flagrantly violates Islam
and Muslims' rights." As President Bashar Al-Asad
has always said, the imam says, the responsibility
for the liberation of the holy land lies with
the Arabs and Muslims all over the world. He

Palestinians and destroy property, urging the
Arabs not to make any further concession to
the "Zionist entity."

13 2002 - Saudi Sermon [FBIS Report]
Riyadh
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia TV1 in Arabic, official
television station of the Saudi Government,
carries on 13 September 2002 at 0927 GMT a live
sermon from the holy mosque in Mecca.
Shaykh Dr. Sa'ud Ibrahim al-Shuraym delivers
the sermon, which he devotes to the virtue of
clemency, saying anger is akin to evil and clemency
to goodness. He cites the example of the prophet
when he forgave his erstwhile Qurayshi enemies
after the conquest of Mecca. The imam urges
worshippers to control their tongues and actions
and resort to the heart and the mind. Anger,
he says, leads to loss of control and regrettable
actions, such as family quarrels between husband
and wife that lead to divorce and the destitution
of children.
The imam continues with the same subject in
the second part of the sermon. He calls on Muslims
to fear God, apply the teachings of Islam and
follow the guidance of the prophet, exercise
self restraint, and refrain from any action
that might be regretted later. The Muslim, he
says, should suppress his anger with clemency
and forbearance.
The imam concludes with a prayer
to God to strengthen Islam and Muslims, humble
infidelity and infidels, destroy the enemies of
religion, and make this country and other Muslim
countries safe and stable.

Iraqi Sermon [FBIS Report]

sermon from Imam Abu-Hanifah mosque in Baghdad.
Shaykh Dr. Abd-al-Razzaq Abd-al-Rahman al-Sa'di
delivers the sermon, which he begins by hailing
the month of Rajab, one of the four months [al-ashhur
al-hurum] in the Muslim calendar year in which
Islam forbids fighting. Today, Friday, 13 September
2002, corresponds to 6 Rajab 1423 Hegira. The
other three are Dhu-al-Qi'dah, Dhu-al-Hijjah,
and Muharram. But, he recalls that Muslims in
early Islam were forced to fight when infidels
attacked them in the month of Rajab.
...
The imam calls on the faithful "everywhere in
the world" to understand "the seriousness of
the savage onslaught on Islam and Muslims" and
unite against the US and British aggression.
He says Rajab, Sha'ban, and Ramadan are months
of worship. Let us worship and pray to God to
remove the injustice and aggression of the oppressors,
he adds.
The imam devotes the second part of the sermon
to a general prayer. He prays: "O God support
Islam and Muslims, elevate the word of right
and religion, and support Muslims against infidels."
He also prays: "O God, support your mujahidin
subjects everywhere, support them in Palestine,
Iraq, and Afghanistan. O God, make them steadfast,
guide their shots, and make them triumph over
Your enemy and their enemy. O God, deal with
the Americans, the English, and the Jews, for
they are within Your power. O God, show us a
black day for them. O God, shake the land under
their feet, lower their flags, sink their ships,
and shoot down their planes. O God, terrorize
them in their homes. O God, intimidate them,
as they intimidate the peaceful." He also prays

the Jews, whom the Koran describes as wicked."

would not have declared that these people seek
peace and want to live in peace." The imam then

wickedness of the Jews, who want Muslims to
abandon their Koran and their prophet's traditions,"
stressing that this nation will restore its
glory and dignity only if it returns to God.
